Scaffold Safety Coalition Responds to Latest Construction Fall
Rash of Accidents a Grim Reminder of Need for Strong Safety Laws
The Center for Popular Democracy released today the following statement from Josie Duffy responding to news that a construction worker at 505 West 19th St. was seriously injured in a fall on Tuesday.
“Everyday, there is another reminder of the danger faced by thousands of construction workers in New York. Construction remains one of the most dangerous jobs in the state. That is why workers, especially those working at dangerous heights, need common-sense safety laws like the Scaffold Safety Law, to protect them.
“The Scaffold Safety Law promotes safety by holding accountable those who control a construction site and are responsible for the safety of those who work there. As yesterday’s fall demonstrates, we should be talking about how to strengthen – not weaken – the laws that protect construction workers.”
