The Justice Department's recent move is "absolutely outrageous," says Jennifer Flynn, a co-organizer of Birddog Nation, a national grassroots network of activists who hound candidates on health care, funded by Housing Works and the Center for Popular Democracy. "It ignores the hundreds of thousands of people who took action in 2017 to save the ACA -- 10,000 distinct actions nationwide, as reported by [House Speaker, Democrat] Nancy Pelosi. It goes against Trump's own advisers. Both houses of Congress voted down the effort to kill ACA. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the Senate vote today on the Green New Deal, the Center for Popular Democracy released the following statement from Dianne Enriquez, Co-Director of Community Dignity Programs:
“Our climate crisis is too great for half-measures or sham votes. But this is exactly what happened today. Instead of taking our climate crisis seriously and responding in kind, today Senators voted against the Green New Deal resolution. Many chose to prioritize the money that they get from oil and energy companies over the future of our communities and our planet. Luckily, there will be future votes. This is just the beginning for the Green New Deal. Moving forward, our Senators and elected representatives must take the bold action that we need to build a resilient future for our planet.”
