Popular Democracy Condemns Trump’s Executive Order To Silence Voters And Seize Power

NEW YORK, NY — In response to Donald Trump’s executive order restricting voter access and imposing a modern-day poll tax through unnecessary citizenship documents, Popular Democracy released the following statement: 

“Let’s be clear: this executive order is a dangerous escalation in the ongoing assault on the right to vote—particularly for Black, brown, and low-income voters. It’s an authoritarian end-run around Congress designed to make it harder for millions of Americans to cast their ballots.

This executive order is about silencing voters and seizing power. Trump is once again laying the groundwork to challenge future election results and undermine trust in our democratic institutions. At the same time, Trump and his billionaire cronies loot trillions of dollars from federal programs that working-class people depend on every day to survive. 

We will not sit quietly as our rights are stripped away. Popular Democracy and our partners across the country are mobilizing to fight back against this attempt to suppress the vote. We demand Congress reject this unconstitutional overreach as well as the SAVE Act, both aimed at silencing voters and concentrating power in the hands of billionaire bullies.”
