NEW YORK CITY - In response to the horrific abuse being perpetrated by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) against Haitian migrants seeking safety at the border, Ana Maria Archila, co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, issued the following statement:
“While seeking refuge in the United States, Haitian migrants have been met with Border Patrol agents brandishing whips. Many are also being deported as more and more deportation flights leave for Haiti. This state violence against Black immigrants must stop immediately. The Biden administration must put an end to CBP abuse, halt deportations to Haiti, and provide humanitarian assistance and parole.
The repeated violence perpetrated by CBP and ICE prove time and time again that these agencies — rooted in white supremacy and anti-Blackness — cannot be reformed and must be abolished.”
