Plugging NYC’s School-To-Prison Pipeline
A landmark 2017 report from the Center for Popular Democracy and the Urban Youth Collaborative (UYC) noted that there had been “1,310 arrests, summonses, or juvenile reports for non-criminal violations” in the city school system in the previous year, including “‘trespassing’ for being on the wrong floor of a multi-school building, or ‘disorderly conduct’ for using obscene language or participating in a peaceful protest.
