Fed Up Coalition: Cohn needs to resign and stop working for a white supremacist

Fed Up co-chair Shawn Sebastian releases statement.

08.25.2017

In response to Gary Cohn’s interview and media reports, the Fed Up coalition issued the following statement:

"If Cohn wants to take a stand against racism and bigotry, he needs to resign and stop working for a white supremacist. The right thing for Cohn to do isn’t complicated. Cohn should announce that Janet Yellen is the most qualified candidate for the job of Fed Chair and resign as Trump’s National Economic Council Director.

Cohn is complicit and guilty. Complicit in accepting white supremacy and guilty of serving the interests of Wall Street over those of the American people.  Cohn’s desire to be Fed Chair is a disgraceful excuse to continue working for a racist administration.

It has taken Gary Cohn almost two weeks to find the backbone to gently criticize Trump’s apologism for white supremacists, the KKK and neo-Nazis. Hs vague comments were too little, too late. Cohn has not demonstrated the character, independence, or leadership to serve as Fed chair.

Cohn said he feels a “duty to fulfill my commitment to work on behalf of the American people.” By pushing regressive tax policies and deregulating Wall Street, Cohn is not working on behalf of the American people, he is only working for himself."
