CPD Statement on Labor Day

JoEllen Chernow, director of Minimum Wage and Earned Sick Time campaigns at the Center for Popular Democracy, released the following statement:

“The fight for dignity for workers is more active than ever in our communities. The Center for Popular Democracy’s partners are leading state and municipal fights to safeguard basic rights for workers, even as we fight for new rights in a rapidly-evolving world to finish the work started generations before us.

“As we lead the way toward a dignified minimum wage, paid sick leave, a fair workweek, and a more inclusive and responsive Federal Reserve, we understand that economic justice cannot be separated from racial and climate justice. Our families deserve dignity and opportunity at work, and our children deserve to go to strong schools in communities made safer, not more dangerous, by the police. Immigrants’ contributions should be valued and respected.

“We will not rest until we achieve justice. We are fighting to break the barriers that keep our neighborhoods from being the places our families deserve, and we will win.”
