Tenants with the Big Country Chateau Apartments and other community members gathered at Little Rock City Hall at noon on Jan. 26th.

They gathered to try to urge city officials to help them relocate and to keep their water and electricity on.

Those who went brought signs and expressed anger toward the complex.

“This is ridiculous,” said tenant, Norma Huffman.

“So many families are affected by this," said Huffman. "Me personally, me and my son are affected by this. We will be homeless. Everybody in this complex will be homeless and it’s not fair.”

Huffman called out to the Mayor asking for his help.

ENTERGY TO SHUT OFF ELECTRICITY AT BIG COUNTRY CHATEAU APARTMENTS

“Fix this,” Huffman said. “Help us. We can’t do this alone.”

This comes after Entergy and Central Arkansas Water gave tenants notices that their water and electricity would be shut off.

Arkansas Renters United says the owner of the Big Country Chateau Apartments is responsible for paying the electric and water services according to the tenant’s lease.

Attorney General Tim Griffin was also at the complex.

Griffin said he had spoken to Arkansas Entergy and they had agreed to keep electricity on for tenants.

Griffin said he is working on getting in touch with Central Arkansas Water.

”My two tracks were to continue to pursue the legal options, which we are doing and while that is going on to try to find some short term relief to take care of the residents and to give us more time while the legal process proceeds,” Griffin said.
