Detroit Action
Detroit Action is a grassroots member-led, community-based organization fighting for political power, racial and economic justice for working-class Detroiters. Our mission is to build the power of individuals and families to challenge the root cause of poverty, advance justice, and promote human development through neighborhood-driven community organizing and civic engagement.
We directly connect with our neighbors to unify our communities to end structural racism and oppression in all its forms. We’re fighting for a world where healthcare, education, a live-able environment, housing, safety and justice are human rights.
Detroit Action provides opportunities for individuals and families to develop as full human beings through our leadership development workshops, organizer internships, nonpartisan voter education and mobilization drives, direct action, and collaboration with allied organizations locally, statewide, nationally, and even internationally.
To date, four groups of organizers from Central and Eastern Europe have visited Detroit Action to learn about what we do and how we do it. Detroit Action organizers and leaders have made presentations and conducted workshops nationally and internationally.
More than 8,000 individuals have participated in Detroit Action activities to date, and more than 5,000 of them have signed up as Detroit Action members. The organization has three geographical chapters that meet monthly and four soup chapters that meet weekly. Everyone is welcome to attend.
