DACA/DAPA Hearing: Immigrant Families Have Come This Far, Will Keep Fighting

Today the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments on the lawsuit blocking the implementation of executive actions put in place by President Obama last fall in response to years of fierce advocacy from immigrant families across the country. In response, the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) released the following statement on behalf of Shena Elrington:

“The oral arguments in New Orleans will give the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals the opportunity to dismantle the flawed district court decision that has left immigrant communities in limbo for far too long. Republican opponents of immigrant rights are using every legal tool and trick available to exclude immigrant families from the protections they need to live and work in the country that our communities call home. Going into this fight, we knew to expect that – this was never easy.

“But history shows that justice is on our side. The movement we built to propel us to this point will only grow stronger. From New Orleans to Los Angeles to the Bronx, we will continue working to  help families stay together. We will not deviate from a future where all immigrants and people of color are treated with the justice and respect they deserve.”
