Political Field Director - United New Economy / United New Economy Action

Position Location: Denver Metro, Colorado

About UNE: United for a New Economy (UNE) is a multiracial community organization building people power in the cities surrounding Denver through community organizing, strategic research and civic engagement to create a thriving economy in Colorado. We believe a thriving economy includes livable wages, worker’s rights, equitable access to dignified housing and the ability to live free of racism and fear. UNE’s work is driven by focusing on the leadership development of community members to create a vision for their cities that empower them and their neighbors to address the issues that impact their daily lives. Organizers identify and recruit community members to identify local issues, implement strategic research strategies, and take public action to create change. UNE utilizes various strategies including power-based relational organizing, political education, policy development, issue advocacy, leadership development, civic engagement and coalition-building to achieve its goals. UNE believes that meaningful change happens through community members organizing their own communities, especially communities traditionally excluded from decision making and positions of leadership such as working families, people of color and immigrants.

Position Overview: The Political Field Director will lead the overall strategy and implementation of UNE’s civic engagement efforts to advance issue campaigns, legislative priorities, and local and state ballot initiatives, and UNE Action’s electoral priorities. The Political Field Director will design a program to integrate voter engagement in all aspects of our organizing, ensuring that our communities are the one’s crafting a vision for a thriving Colorado, and holding our elected officials accountable to that vision at the federal, state, and local level. This position will align our voter engagement efforts with our field membership recruitment operation and support in expanding the existing dues paying program. This is a senior level position which will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Organizing and Deputy Director.

Primary Responsibilities:
● Work with organizing team to construct strategic civic engagement and voter
contact programs to advance issue campaigns and policy priorities.
● Co-lead state legislative strategy with Organizing Director to ensure voter
engagement integration with organizing program.

● Implement a training program for staff and membership to build year-round voter
engagement capacity.
● Manage C3 and C4 civic engagement field programs including: member
recruitment, voter registration, persuasion, GOTV and electoral accountability.
● Represent UNE at coalition and campaign tables, and manage and develop
partnership relationships to achieve civic engagement and policy outcomes.
● Provide timely reporting as requested for funders, staff, and allied organizations.
● Serve as technical and training support to staff and membership for VAN (Voter
Action Network), EveryAction and Hustle.
● In collaboration with organizing team, develop and execute membership
recruitment canvasses.
● Along with the Deputy Director and Digital Organizer, grow our member dues
program.
● Supervise Researcher and Political Analyst.

Job Requirements: We are seeking a highly motivated seasoned social justice leader who is interested in growing the organization into a credible powerhouse for grassroots organizing, voter engagement and economic justice campaigns. The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of electoral or community organizing experience, and experience organizing in coalition with grassroots, political and labor allies. Candidates should also have:

● Commitment to the social justice movement and passion for winning change for
low income and working families people
● Commitment to understand race, class, gender, and other equity issues
● Experience working with low income communities, communities of color, and/or
the labor movement
● At least 2 years leading civic engagement programs
● Experience with the wide range of electoral tactics employed by community
organizations, including canvassing, phone-banking, SMS, digital ads, direct
mail, earned media, volunteer and paid operations
● Strong understanding of VAN (Voter Action Network), EveryAction, Hustle, Xcel
and political data
● Familiarity with legal frameworks for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 eligible activities
● Experience leading grassroots organizing campaigns with state or local
significance
● Demonstrated experience in recruiting, motivating and training staff and
volunteers
● Ability to develop and implement training curricula
● At least 1 year of direct management of staff
● Ability and commitment to the development of leadership capacity among staff
and members
● Excellent relationship-building skills with significant experience building and
sustaining working relationships across geography and with community leaders
and organizers of color

● Knowledge of the current economic, political and legislative issues at the local
and state level
● Must be able to operate independently in addition to working with a team in a
campaign setting with an ability to respond to a rapidly changing political
environment and field program
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (listening, speaking, and
writing)
● Experience with fundraising preferred (grant writing, small donor campaigns, etc.)
● Willingness to work occasional long and irregular hours, including evenings and
weekends
● Ability and willingness to travel and reliable transportation
● People of Color and candidates who speak a language in addition to English

Compensation:
● Salary range is $53,000 - $57,000 based on experience.
