Operations, HR and Finance Manager - Organization United for Respect

Position Location: Oakland, CA preferred, but not required

The OUR Operations, HR and Finance Manager position will provide effective leadership and oversight of Human Resources, Admin and Finance for OUR organization.

OUR is a dynamic organization of people working retail jobs dedicated to improving the lives of those working in the country’s largest job sector through peer workplace support and community building. OUR is a key driver in a new, dynamic movement that is changing the national conversation about low-wage work and empowering people with education around their workplace rights and community based resources so they can achieve job stability and improve working conditions. OUR’s success derives from its investment in developing high level leadership from its base and using social media to connect people into communities of peer support and action.

Formerly known as OUR Walmart, OUR is a national organization that works to promote better working conditions for retail employees. The organization is most known for its work with current and former Walmart associates that has achieved national scale and impact through an innovative fusion of workplace-based and online outreach and education as well as strong community partnerships. Hundreds of leaders around the country anchor OUR Walmart’s work, which is now a project of OUR, and tens of thousands of retail workers in all 50 states use OUR’s tools at their worksite oronline. OUR Walmart members support each other, share information around their rights and resources, advocate for improved workplace conditions, share their stories publicly, propose policy improvements, participate in intensive leadership training, and build alliances with community partners.

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Management

  • Together with the co-director, maintain timely and accurate financial statements, yearly budgets, budget re-forecasts, budget variance analysis, and financial trend reports to advise leadership team on the financial implications of operating decisions.

  • Provide timely production of financial statements as requested throughout the year.

  • Review and reconcile monthly credit card statement.

  • Manage service contracts and vendor relationships to ensure proper payment and invoicing.

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with the senior team on new initiatives, strengthening systems, and compliance needs.

  • Serve as lead with staff on monitoring intake of monthly attendance and expense reports; track employee time off requests.

  • Develop and lead an organization-wide strategy for recruiting and retaining high-quality, diverse staff, including identifying talent within and outside the organization;

  • Establish effective on-boarding and off-boarding policies and practices; ensure consistent implementation and follow through;

  • Implement and monitor, together with the senior team, job training and performance management programs.

  • Conduct a continuing study of all personnel policies, programs, and practices to keep the organization abreast of current practices and informed of new developments;

Administration

  • Setup and maintain organizational filing system

  • Provide travel assistance and logistics for large conferences.

  • Administering, including creating and managing, user accounts through Google

  • DNS maintenance (registering / renewing URLs)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in HR, Finance or Admin

  • Commitment to social justice

  • Experience developing, supporting and supervising staff is a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects.

  • Proven record of accomplishment of successful results in operations and financial management, preferably in complex organizations.

  • Proven record of accomplishment in developing metrics and reporting.

  • Data-driven with strong analytical and technical skills.

  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Highly flexible, adaptive, with a problem solving orientation.

  • Respectful of different work styles and approaches.

  • Attuned to creating and promoting organizational excellence.

  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion

  • Knowledgeable about HR conventions and employment law;

  • Experience in building strategies and approaches to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
