Immigrant rights groups marched through Woodbridge, New Jersey yesterday in a renewed push to give undocumented people access to driver’s licenses. Johanna Caye is the executive director of New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice. She says the proposal would make the roads safer. “When you and I, or those of us who have a driver’s license, are on the road, we want to know that the people sitting next to us all know the rules of the road, have been tested and know the rules of the road. But right now, we are not necessarily sure of that. The proposal has the support of Governor Phil Murphy, if passed the measure would result in 222,000 undocumented immigrants obtaining drivers licenses in New Jersey in the first 3 years, according to a study by the Center for Popular Democracy and National immigration law Center.
