Preventing Thousands of Unjust Deportations.
On March 18, 2013, Mayor Bloomberg signed new legislation to stop federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from using NYC’s criminal justice system to deport thousands of New Yorkers. Building on legislation we helped to win just over a year ago, Local Laws and prohibit not only the Department of Correction but now also the NYPD from spending millions of city taxpayer dollars to hold individuals on behalf of ICE for detention and deportation. Now, each year, thousands of New York families will stay together who would otherwise have been torn apart by overly aggressive, indiscriminate immigration enforcement.
At a moment when the country is debating immigration reform, with these laws, NYC sends a clear message to Washington that deporting and tearing apart thousands of immigrant families, is bad policy. With your support, we look forward to winning national reform that keeps families together. Evitando Miles de Deportaciones Injustas.
El 18 de marzo de 2013, el alcalde Bloomberg firmó una nueva ley para frenar el uso del sistema penal de la ciudad de Nueva York, por parte del Servicio de inmigración y control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos (ICE) para deportar miles de neoyorquinos. Basándose en la legislación que ayudamos a ganar tan solo hace un año, las leyes locales y se le prohíbe no solo al Departamento de Corrección, sino también al departamento de la Policía de Nueva York, que gasten millones de dólares del dinero de los contribuyentes de la ciudad para mantener en sus instalaciones personas por solicitud de ICE para luego ser retenidas y deportadas. Ahora, cada año, miles de familias neoyorquinas que en otras circunstancias habrían sido destrozadas por la tan agresiva e indiscriminada imposición de inmigración, permanecerán unidas.
En un momento en el que el país está debatiendo la Reforma Migratoria, con estas leyes, Nueva York le envía a Washington el claro mensaje de que deportar y destrozar miles de familias inmigrantes, es una mala política. Con su apoyo esperamos lograr una reforma nacional que mantenga las familias unidas.
