Director of the Fed Up Campaign

Position Location: Washington, D.C. or Brooklyn, New York preferred; will consider remote candidates, too

The Fed Up Campaign is a groundbreaking and innovative campaign fighting for monetary policy that advances racial and economic justice. The Fed Up Campaign has pushed the Federal Reserve toward true full employment through direct confrontation with directly affected low-income Black and Latinx communities, cutting-edge research, creative communications, and sophisticated political strategies. The Federal Reserve is the most powerful economic policy making institution in America, and few campaigns can claim the impact that Fed Up has achieved -- millions of people have jobs today in part because Fed Up has shifted the debate and opened the door to record low unemployment.

The Director will lead the Fed Up Campaign at a crucial turning point: Fed policymakers are questioning basic assumptions that drive their decision-making and searching for answers about how to respond more effectively to the next recession. The Director of the Fed Up Campaign will have an enormous impact on the future of the economy and particularly the lives of Black and Latinx workers.

The Fed Up Campaign is housed within the Economic Justice Program at the Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action and works closely with CPD/A affiliates and other movement allies.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 45 partner organizations in more than 38 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.


  • Develop the overall strategic direction of the campaign, setting goals, deploying a wide range of multi-disciplinary tactics, and building effective coalitions and partnerships.

  • Manage a staff with diverse skill sets and backgrounds, including field organizers, policy wonks, researchers, and digital and communications professionals

  • Design, oversee, and manage a national field program executed by field staff, that includes partnerships with community based organizations across the country, digital organizing, and a range of field tactics including popular education, leadership development, and direct action.

  • Fundraise, maintaining positive relationships with current donors and expand and diversify revenue sources through donor cultivation.

  • Serve as the spokesperson for Fed Up, including with Federal Reserve officials, print, television, and other media, and in conferences and other speaking events.

  • Create integrated research and communications plans for maximum impact with policymakers and the press. This will include brainstorming with economics experts, a comprehensive mapping of the press that covers the Federal Reserve, and rollout plans that may include supporting field activities such as direct action.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with economic think tanks, advocacy organizations, community based organizations, digital organizations, and other current and potential allies.

Qualifications and competencies:

  • At least 5-10 years prior experience in campaigns -- issue campaigns and/or political campaign.

  • Demonstrated commitment working on racial and economic justice and a deep knowledge of how racial justice and economic justice are connected.

  • Demonstrated success persuading and influencing groups and individuals with respect to colleagues, team members, and other potential stakeholders.

  • Knowledgeable about and committed to core values of equity, diversity, and racial justice and the ability to demonstrate, communicate and represent those to others.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of culture of social justice movements (community orgs, labor, etc.)

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present at public platforms.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
