Community Organizer

Vamos4PR and Vamos4PR Action (collectively, Vamos4PR/A) are jointly hiring a community organizer in Orange County, Florida. Vamos4PR/A is a network of stateside labor, community, cultural, and human rights groups committed to fighting for a better future for Puerto Rico and empowering the Puerto Rican diaspora. Vamos4PR is a project of the Center for Popular Democracy and Vamos4PR Action is a project of the Center for Popular Democracy Action.

The Community Organizer will be responsible for aspects of the Vamos4PR/A Florida campaign to build power for Puerto Ricans on the Island and for the diaspora’s Orange County communities.   The Community Organizer will be responsible for organizing and mobilizing community members around local issues and for federal initiatives to cancel the Puerto Rican debt and give a voice for sustainable long-term investment to rebuild the Island.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting community leaders and members in the targeted geographies;
  • Working with leaders to facilitate workshops and conversations focused on Puerto Rico, social justice and political awareness;
  • Planning events to engage members in the political work of Vamos4PR Action in Florida;
  • Planning and coordinating campaign activities, lobby visits, phone banking and events for our campaigns as needed;
  • Collaborating in campaign strategies, including rallies, press events and targeted activities;
  • Planning and coordinating local activities that reinforce the actions and objectives of the national Vamos4PR campaign

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in community organizing, legislative, or electoral campaigns;
  • Experience working with directly impacted people;
  • Ability to work with leaders to develop workshops focused on Puerto Rico, social justice and political awareness;
  • Ability to plan and execute events;
  • Ability to design and implement powerful and effective campaign plans;
  • Excellent communications skills and experience building strong working relationships with various stakeholders;
  • Fluent written and oral Spanish;
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, and to travel as needed.
