Trump and GOP Attacks on ACA Will Strip Health Care From Millions of Americans

WASHINGTON, DC -- In response to Texas v. United States decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) released the following statement from Co-Executive Director and Network President Jennifer Epps-Addison:

“Since the day he was sworn in, President Trump and his allies in the GOP have gone to every length to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. Yesterday’s decision was another deliberate strategy to strip healthcare from millions of Americans --- and the intentional move to issue the ruling on the same night as a historic impeachment vote shows that they hope to do it while the nation is distracted. But we are paying attention!

“The court’s decision leaves millions of Americans in limbo, worried that they are in danger of losing their insurance. By delaying a final decision on this case, the two GOP-backed judges on the bench are trying to set the stage for what they hope will be a second Trump administration -- which would undercut affordable, high-quality health care from working-class Black and Brown communities, people with disabilities, and everyone who has previously been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Healthcare is a human right -- but the Trump administration and the GOP have made it clear that they have no intention of upholding it. CPD will continue to fight for universal healthcare for all people in this country and we won’t stop until we win.”
