NEW YORK – The Center for Popular Democracy deplores the Supreme Court's 4-4 deadlock on President Obama’s executive actions, which will prevent implementation of the orders granting administrative relief to millions of immigrant families.

Ana Maria Archila, Co-Executive Director at Center for Popular Democracy, released the following statement:

"Today, we mourn the Supreme Court deadlock on President Obama's executive order. The lack of a decision allows the politically motivated ruling from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to stand. Millions of immigrant families have lived in limbo for the past 18 months and this decision prolongs their agony.

President Obama's immigration orders would allow up to five million families to finally emerge from the shadows, but today's decision means immigrants will continue to live in fear that their families will be torn apart by deportation.

If the highest court in the land cannot find a majority for justice and compassion, there is something truly broken in our system of laws, checks and balances. Despite this devastating deadlock, the Center for Popular Democracy will continue to fight alongside our partners and their members for lasting relief for our families. We will redouble our efforts to register Latinos and all of our constituents to vote and to turn out in the November elections. And we will continue to organize, to demonstrate and to campaign for policies that keep immigrant families together."
