NC Action Group Pleading For Lawmakers To Pass Rent, Mortgage Assistance

CHARLOTTE — Armed with signs and their voices, a group is pleading with lawmakers for help to keep families in their homes.  It’s the beginning of the month and thousands of people are out of work and can’t pay their rent or mortgage.  Action NC took to the streets in protest near the Mecklenburg County Courthouse Tuesday.  A car caravan of sorts, making a loud noise for justice they say, at the site where many families are being forced from their homes.

Governor Roy Cooper’s eviction moratorium expired in July.  The group is pushing state lawmakers to pass House Bill 1200.  It would provide critical housing support to families still impacted by the pandemic.

“We are fed up of being displaced of having our families in a situation where they don’t have a roof over their head it’s stressful,” says Jessica Moreno, Action NC.
According to the group, 542,000 households across North Carolina are experiencing rent shortfall and facing eviction.
