The Center for Popular Democracy's Standing Strong Together NYC Benefit

On Monday, October 30, hundreds of you joined us for a fantastic celebration of organizing, resistance, and the progressive movement in New York City! Together with our host committee, we honored a few exceptional people with the 2017 Center for Popular Democracy Social Justice Award: Gara LaMarche, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Bill Samuels, and Susan B. Plum.

With your support, we successfully raised essential funding that will enable us to, together with our network of 49 affiliates and partners, resist attacks on our nation, our people, and our values.

Tony-award winning playwright and performer, Sarah Jones, entertained guests with a staged reading of The Foundation, modified especially for our event, followed by a talk-back with honoree Gara LaMarche. After mingling over cocktails, guests were then entertained by Brandon Victor Dixon and Joel Perez with original music and stories from the field, directed by Leigh Silverman. We heard moving speeches from attorney, public advocate, and philanthropic leader, Maya Harris, as well as CPD Board Member and Senior VP for Social Justice at the New School, Maya Wiley.

Relive all the action on our Facebook live stream!

CPD continues to catalyze and support the upsurge of resistance energy and activity, to take action to the streets, to protect vital victories of the past, to win new progressive change, and to elevate our collective voice and vision for justice. Learn more about our work by watching the short video below!

Thank you to all of our incredible sponsors who helped make this evening a success. We'd also like to extend gratitude to all of the people who have generously donated their time and talent to make this event possible.

If you weren't able to make it to our New York City benefit, please still support our vital work and give today!
